Ensure The Focus Remains On God

One role of the worship leader is to ensure that the corporate worship service remains focused on God.

Worship is about giving to God. And in the process of giving praise, thanksgiving, our worship as well as our worries, cares and troubles, we are putting our focus and attention on our savior!

Sometimes, however, our focus shifts too easily to other things. We focus on methods, being clever, or production. Each of those things has a place in helping us stay focused on God, but we always want to remind ourselves to bring it back to a singular focus in worship! We have so little time each week that every moment counts!

Questions to ask about announcements:

How is this announcement calling people to action to give glory to God? What step are we asking people to take? How is this announcement aiding in the mission of the church for the purpose of reaching people for Jesus?

Questions to ask about songs:

Do these songs put a focus on God or our response to God? Is this song familiar so people can easily sing and worship God? Is this song in a key that is more helpful for the congregation to worship God or is it just the best key for the worship team? Does this song help teach people more about loving Jesus and following him?

Question to ask about response time:

Are we helping people take a step closer to God? How are we inviting people to respond to the invitation? What is our call for people as we invite them to respond to the scripture, message or invitation for the day/service?

As leaders, we want to help take people to the throne room. This isn’t going to happen unless we are praying, seeking God’s leading and staying open to his work through us. Let’s stay focused on God in worship and invite our church to join us!
